Adrian Gonzalez sparked the Dodgers’ first rally, stroking an RBI single before scoring on Yasiel Puig’s triple. Losing pitcher Adam Wainwright allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings after entering the game 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA lifetime in the postseason.

DETROIT – The Boston Red Sox have a 2-1 lead in the American League Championship Series after John Lackey pitched into the seventh and Mike Napoli homered in a 1-0 win over the Tigers in Detroit. Lackey held the Tigers to four hits while striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings, but he needed Napoli’s seventh-inning blast in order to pick up the win. Napoli’s home run came off Justin Verlander, who allowed just three other hits while fanning 10 in eight innings.
LOS ANGELES – Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer and pinch-hitter Shane Robinson added a solo shot as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Dodgers 4-2 in Los Angeles to take a three-games-to-one lead in the National League Championship Series. Holliday had been 0-for-12 in the series and hitless in his previous 22 at-bats at Dodger Stadium before his homer put the Cardinals ahead 3-0 in the third inning. Winning pitcher Lance Lynn allowed two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings to help the Cardinals get within one victory of their fourth World Series appearance in 10 seasons.

LOS ANGELES – The St. Louis Cardinals made the Dodgers sweat a bit at the end but Los Angeles is heading to St. Louis for Game 6 Friday night after holding off the Cards 6-4 in the NL championship series. The Cards scored twice in the ninth but Dodgers reliever Kenley Jansen caught pinch-hitter Adron Chambers looking at a called third strike with the tying runs on base as the Dodgers cut the Cards’ series lead to 3-2.

(STORM LAKE) — Le Mars ran off 30 unanswered point in the final six minutes of the first half to break away from a 14-7 lead and took a 44-7 lead to the locker room at halftime as the Bulldogs punched their playoff ticket in Class 3A with a 58-14 thrashing of Storm Lake Friday night. Levi TeBrink guided Le Mars to six first half touchdowns on eight possessions, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another. TeBrink threw a 25 yard TD pass to Tyler Paulsen on the Bulldogs first offensive play of the game and then connected on a 43-yarder to Chris Hatting in the second quarter. The first half ended with TeBrink throwing to Tyler Borchers who lateraled to Hatting for a 32 yard scoring play. TeBrink also ran three yards for a score and Beau Ohm dented the end zone on a pair of one yard runs before halftime. Mitch Timp and Quentin Issiah Boddie ran for second half scores as Le Mars played back-ups for much of the final 24 minutes. The Bulldogs rolled up 554 yards of offense for the night. TeBrink was 9-for-12 passing for 203 yards while Le Mars had a season-best 351 yards rushing. The Bulldogs improve to 3-and-5 for the season and 3-and-2 in district 2 play and will close out the 2013 regular season next Friday at home against number-ten Carroll in a 7:30 kick-off at Jim Lorenzen Field. The halftime show next Friday will feature the mass band performance.
(LE MARS) — Blake Wiltgen threw four touchdown passes and ran for a score to lead Gehlen Catholic to a 42-18 non-district win over Unity Christian Friday night in the Jays’ final home appearance of the 2013 season. Wiltgen threw a pair of scoring passes to Aaron Jentz of nine and 54 yards and connected with Mitchell Flack and Solomon Freking on short scoring strikes. Wiltgen added a two yard run for six points in the second quarter. Payton Bouma added Gehlen’s final score with a 48 yard gallop in the first quarter. The Jays led 28-6 by halftime. Logan Schoonhoven ran for two scores for Unity Christian. Wiltgen finished 12-of-21 passing for 148 yards while carrying the ball eleven times for 71 yards. Bouma rushed for 116 yards on 16 carries. Schoonhoven had 196 yards rushing for the Knights. Gehlen improves to 4-and-4 for the season while Unity Christian falls to 0-and-8. Gehlen closes out the regular season at Emmetsburg next Friday night, needing a win over the E-Hawks to secure a playoff spot in Class 1A, district one. The game will be carried on KLEM starting at 6:45 with the Tony Gunter pregame show.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Carlos Hyde ran for 149 yards, including 106 yards and two touchdowns in the second half, to lead Number 4 Ohio State to a 34-24 victory over Iowa on Saturday.
It was the Buckeyes’ 19th consecutive victory, the most in the nation and tying the second-best streak in school history.
But it didn’t come easy. The Hawkeyes (4-3, 1-2 Big Ten) dominated offensively in the first half and led 21-14 at the break behind the passing of Jake Rudock and running of Mark Weisman and Damon Bullock.
Hyde tied it with the first rushing TD against Iowa this season on Ohio State’s first drive of the third quarter, and the Buckeyes took over.
WACO, Texas – Bryce Petty threw for 343 yards and two touchdowns, Antwan Goodley had 182 yards receiving and two scores, and No. 12 Baylor tied a school record with its 10th straight win, beating Iowa State 71-7 on Saturday night.
The Bears, who came in averaging 70.5 points in four home games but were slowed in a come-from-behind win at Kansas State last week, led 37-0 at halftime and narrowly missed its first shutout win in the Big 12.
Baylor (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) matched its 10-game winning streak from 1936-37.
Iowa State (1-5, 0-3) was without quarterback Sam Richardson while Baylor pulled away in the second quarter. The Cyclones had nine first downs and three turnovers.
The Cyclones scored with 47 with seconds left on a 27-yard pass from Grant Rohach to DeVondrick Nealy. Corey Coleman returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards to give Baylor its fourth 70-point game this season.
CEDAR FALLS – Kevin Earl’s 1-yard touchdown run in overtime led South Dakota over Northern Iowa 38-31 in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown Saturday.
Earl’s overtime plunge capped a huge day, as he ran for two touchdowns and threw for 370 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Coyotes (4-3, 3-1) back from a 21-point third quarter deficit to tie the game with five seconds in regulation.
Northern Iowa (4-3, 0-3) scored three consecutive touchdowns in the second and third quarters to put the Panthers up 28-7 late in the third.
But South Dakota stormed back as Earl completed a 43-yard touchdown pass to Riley Donovan, then ran eight yards for a score, before leading the 7-play, 58-yard game tying drive, which ended in a 3-yard scoring strike to Terrance Terry as time wound down.
David Johnson led Northern Iowa with 181 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Evan Williams added two rushing touchdowns in Cedar Falls.

BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox are going back to the World Series for the third time in 10 seasons.
Shane Victorino’s seventh-inning grand slam propelled Boston to a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night, clinching the AL championship series in six games and setting up a World Series rematch with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Red Sox will host Game 1 on Wednesday night against the team they swept in 2004 to end their 86-year title drought. The Cardinals won the NL pennant on Friday night by eliminating the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games.
With 21-game winner Max Scherzer on the mound, Detroit took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning and held it until Boston loaded the bases on a double, a walk and an error by shortstop Jose Iglesias. Victorino lofted an 0-2 pitch from Jose Veras over the Green Monster.
