Fire Department Called To Fasteners For Heater On Fire
(Le Mars) — Fire officials were called to Fastener located on north Business highway 75 this morning for what turned out to be a heater in the ceiling that had gotten too hot and started a small fire and melted the plastic ventilator. Employees of Fastener reported smelling smoke at about 9:00 a.m. When fire officials arrived on the scene, they immediately saw smoke coming from the ceiling of the entryway. Fire officials were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it had an opportunity to grow. Officials were on the scene for about half an hour.

Supervisors Approve $100,000 For L.O.S.T. Funding Projects
(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors approved funding requests for 13 projects amounting to $100,000 as suggested by the Local Options Sales Tax advisory board. Mary Reynolds, chair of the advisory board informed the county supervisors there were a total of 21 funding requests presented amounting to more than $204,900. Those organizations to receive the Local Options Sales Tax funding include : Life Skills Training Center, Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce, Le Mars Public Library, Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, Remsen Heritage Museum, City of Merrill, Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Oyens Fire Department, Plymouth County Senior Helpmates, Plymouth County Historical Museum, City of Remsen, Remsen-Union and Remsen St. Mary’s and a joint project involving the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee along with the Plymouth County Fair. Reynolds asked the supervisors to give consideration of continuing the appropriation of funding for community-based projects.

City Council Discusses Public Works Building
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars City Council will meet today at noon (Tuesday) at the city hall council chambers. Action items included voting for the new proposed city public works building project, and the first reading of the code of ordinance changes. City administrator Scott Langel says the proposed new city works building will be located at 6th Avenue Southwest and 18th Street Southwest. Langel says the city council has been discussing the project for five years.

Langel says the proposed public works building is a pre-engineered structure. He says the city is allowing the construction firms to bring what they know best to the city and propose the different concepts.

The public works building will measure 80 feet wide and 350 feet long. Langel says there is also an auxillary building to be included that measures 60 feet by 200 feet.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Not Ready To Open On Original Deadline
(Le Mars) — Today, April 1st, was the original deadline the new city wastewater treatment facility was to have started operating. However, Scott Langel says that will not happen.
