Oyens Fire Dept. Responds To Lumber Fire

(Oyens) — The Oyens and Remsen Fire Departments were called to 39201 180th Street, about a mile south and a quarter of a mile east of Highway 3 for a lumber fire Saturday afternoon.  The alarm was sounded at about 3:40 p.m.  When fire officials arrived on the scene, a stack of salvage lumber from an old barn that was being torn down was on fire.  Fire officials are not certain as to what started the blaze. Several 2″x 6″ pieces of lumber, of all lengths, were lost in the fire.  Shortly after arriving on the scene, the Oyens fire department was able to contain and control the fire, allowing the Remsen Fire Department to return to its base headquarters.  Fire officials did not have an estimate of the damage as a result of the fire.  The Oyens Fire Department remained on scene for about an hour and a half.
