Updated Information Regarding Moped Accident
(Le Mars) — A moped and a car collided at the Wal-mart parking lot Monday afternoon at about 5:30 p.m causing injuries to the moped driver. The car was driven by 62 year old Jean King of Le Mars who was traveling mostly in a west direction properly through the Wal-mart parking lot. 14 year old Chandler Grossenheider of Le Mars was driving the moped cutting across the parking lot. Grossenheider did not see the King vehicle and as a result, struck the right front of the King vehicle. The 14 year old girl was ejected from her moped and onto the hood of the vehicle and into the windshield. Grossenheider was treated at the scene and transported to Floyd Valley Hospital. She is reported to be in good condition.
Fatal Auto Accident Victim Now Identified
(Storm Lake) — Buena Vista county authorities have now identified the person involved with the fatal accident that occurred Monday morning. 63 year old James Hoffman of Weston, Missouri was killed when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Highway 3 and County road M-54. Hoffman’s car struck a semi truck and trailer hauling gravel and was lodged underneath the semi trailer. Rescue workers had to use the jaws of life to extricate Hoffman from the car. Buena Vista County Medical Examiner declared the Hoffman to be dead at the scene. Hoffman was the only person in the car. The driver of the truck and trailer was 37 year old Aaron Keene of Storm Lake, and did not suffer any injuries. Assisting at the scene were the Albert City Fire Department, Iowa Highway Patrol, Sioux Rapids Police Department, Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, the Buena Vista County Medical Examiner’s office, and the Buena Vista County Regional Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation.
Graves Construction Wins Bid For Repairing Washed Out Bridge
(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors accepted a bid submitted by Graves Construction of Spencer, Iowa for a bridge replacement project. The bridge in question was was washed away from the flooding of a year ago during the Memorial Day weekend. Graves Construction was one of three bids submitted for the 120 feet long by 30 feet wide bridge, located on 110th Street in Fredonia Township. Graves’ bid was listed at $412,471 with 85 percent of the cost to replace the bridge will be financed through FEMA.
Supervisors Proclaim Fair Week As “Plymouth County Agriculture Awareness Week”
(Le Mars) — In other action taken by the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors, they approved a resolution proclaiming the week of Monday, July 21st through Sunday, July 27th as “Plymouth County Agriculture Awareness Week”. The week happens to be the same week as the Plymouth County Fair. Five members of the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee were on hand for the proclamation. Paul Jacobson, the chairman of the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee informed the supervisors of the economic and social importance agriculture has upon the county. Jacobson told the supervisors that more than $600 million dollars is generated through the sale of grains, livestock, and agricultural products, making Plymouth County third in the state of Iowa and 66th in the nation for total value of agricultural products sold.
Fire Department And Dean’s Foods To Train For Tornado
(Le Mars) — Tornadoes have ripped through several communities in recent years with Pilger, Nebraska being the latest town to be wiped off the map because of a strong tornado. The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department wants to be prepared if a tornado should strike our community and severly damages one of our industries. For that reason, the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department in cooperation with Dean’s Foods will jointly conduct a training session Wednesday evening on tornado safety. Dave Schipper, fire chief for the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department explains what will occur during the training.

Hard Rock Casino To Install Trademark Guitar Sign
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – A 50-foot electric guitar is about to join the Sioux City skyline.
Workers on Monday began to assemble the guitar-shaped sign that will be placed atop the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The operation is expected to open Aug. 1.
Hard Rock General Manager Todd Moyer says the guitar body will be connected with the Hard Rock logo and guitar neck as the sign is mounted on the roof of the four-story Battery Building. A crane will be used to lift the sign into place Thursday.
The sign will be visible for miles and will be easily spotted by motorists on Interstate 29.
The $128.5 million downtown casino and hotel will employ about 500 people.
