(Le Mars) The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation along with other agencies continue to work on the deaths of Donald and Esther Neunaber of rural Akron, Iowa.
Jonathan Neunaber was returned to Plymouth County over the weekend and is being held in the Plymouth County jail. Deputies transported Jonathan from the La Crosse, Wisconsin correctional facility. Neunaber was arrested without incident. He made an initial appearance in Plymouth County and is being held without bond as a material witness in the death investigation.
The vehicle Neunaber was driving at the time of his arrest was seized and is being held in La Crosse. The sheriff’s office and DCI are making evvorts to have the vehicle transported to the DCI lab in Des Moines where a crime scene team will process the vehicle for evidentiary purposes. The vehicle is a 2006 Buick which was registered to Donald and Eshter Neunaber.
On July 11, 2014 autopsies were performed at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner on the bodies of Esther, age 80 and Donald Neunaber, age 83 bye Michele Catellier, MD, Associate State Medical Examiner. The cause of death for Esther Neunaber will be certified as blunt force injuries. He manner of death is classified as a homicide. The cause of death for Donald Neunaber is pending additional laboratory testing.
The investigation is continuing.
