It may have come a year later than everybody thought but the Le Mars Lady Bulldogs softball team is headed for the 4A State tournament next week! Madison Heidebrink’s two-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Holly Schneider from first base with the winning run and Le Mars stunned No. 2 Fort Dodge 3-2 Tuesday night in the 4A Regional finals at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. It was Heidebrink’s fourth hit of the night and her third RBI. She tripled home a run in the third to tie the score at 1-1 and singled home a run in the fifth to again tie the game at 2-2. Her double to the gap in the right-center produced the improbable walk-off win. Janessa Milbrodt threw a five-hitter with three walks and one strikeout to get the win in the pitching circle to improve to 11-and-10. Le Mars (21-and-16) will play in their first-ever State softball tournament next Monday at 11:30 a.m. against top-rated Dallas Center-Grimes (38-and-1) in Fort Dodge.
