Airline Stopping Sioux City Service
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – Frontier Airlines is saying goodbye to a Sioux City airport, ending a four-month stint serving the community.
The flights began with much fanfare and were popular, but the airline says it’s focused on faster-growing markets, such as Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. In August, the airline announced that it was stopping its nonstop flights from Sioux Gateway Airport to Denver International Airport.
The last flight from the Sioux City airport was on Friday.
Frontier flights traveled three times each week between the two cities. American Airlines is now the only other carrier at Sioux Gateway Airport.
The airport’s director says Frontier’s lease in the terminal ends next month. He says crews from the airline will soon remove computer systems and ground equipment.
Clinton Coming To Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Former President Bill Clinton is coming to Iowa to campaign for Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley.
Braley’s campaign announced Friday that Clinton will appear at two events on Nov. 1. He will speak at a rally in Des Moines and then at Braley’s annual “Bruce, Blues and BBQ” fundraiser in Waterloo.
According to a news release, Clinton will talk about the importance of voting in a midterm election and will urge Iowans to cast their ballots early.
Braley, a four-term congressman from Waterloo, is locked a close race against Republican Joni Ernst, a state lawmaker and officer in the Iowa National Guard from Red Oak. The two are competing for the seat long held by retiring Democrat Tom Harkin. It is one of the most competitive races in the nation.
Pheasant Season Opens
(Des Moines)–The annual pheasant season opens Saturday and the man who keeps track of bird counts across the state believes it could be a good one. D-N-R pheasant biologist, Todd Bogenschutz says the survey numbers shows a rebound in bird numbers in the August count.

He says if the crops are out, they will go out to feed in the morning and midafternoon and then they go back to grassy cover areas. Saturday and Sunday could be big days for hunters.

Hunters harvested 10-thousand more pheasants in 2013 than 2012 despite record low survey counts. The harvest this year could get as high as 300-thousand. Hunting hours for Iowa’s pheasant seasons are 8 a-m until 4:30 each day. The daily limit is three rooster pheasants. The season closes on January 10th.
