Two Vehicle Accident Causes Injuries

(Le Mars) — Authorities and rescue workers responded to the scene of a two vehicle accident that happen at about 11:40 a.m at the intersection of County roads C-38 and K-22.  Fire fighters from the Le Mars Fire Department assisted with the extrication of victims from the vehicles as a result of the collision. Akron Rescue and the Le Mars Ambulance were also called to the scene.  Mercy Air Care helicopter was dispatched to the scene to transport injured victims to Mercy Medical Center Trauma Unit.  One vehicle was a pick up truck owned by Southern Sioux Rural Water Association.  The pick up truck was towing a flatbed trailer hauling a skid loader.  The other vehicle was a passenger car.

Driver of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up has been identified as Mark L. Wells, 57 of Ireton, Iowa.  Driver of the 2008 Chrysler has been identified as Arris Newsome, 24, of Vermillion, South Dakota.  Newsome was transported by Akron Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center.  Wells was air lifted to Mercy by MAC.  His injuries were identified as life threatening.  The investigation continues.
