Republicans Sweep Election in Plymouth County.
(Le Mars) –Each of the local and the statewide races were won by the Republican candidates for Plymouth County. In many instances, the margin of victory for Republicans over their Democrat contenders was a 3 to 1 margin. Statewide, Joni Ernst will be joining Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley as the next U-S Senator representing Iowa. Ernst, is the first woman to win a state-wide election in Iowa. Ernst was able to beat Democratic Congressman Bruce Braley, not only in Plymouth County, but also across Iowa.
Governor Terry Branstad, along with running mate Kim Reynolds were able to beat Democratic opponet Jack Hatch, both in Plymouth County and across the state. Branstad was elected to a sixth term as the Governor for Iowa.
In the Congressional 4th District Race, incumbent Republican Steve King was able to hold off Democratic contender Jim Mowrer, both in Plymouth County as well as across the Congressional district of northwest and northcentral Iowa.
Supervisors Don Kass and Craig Anderson were able to be re-elected to serve on the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors. Both, were unopposed with their races.
John Meis will join the County Board of Supervisors in January as he will assume the duties representing Plymouth County’s District 1. Meis was unchallenged for the supervisor seat being vacated by retiring supervisor, Jack Guenthner.
