Plymouth County 4-H And Agricultural Society Elects Directors
(Le Mars) — Last evening the Plymouth County 4-H and Agricultural Society held its annual meeting. Elected to serve on the board of directors for the Plymouth County Fair included Loren Schempf, Bob Kabish, John Ahlers, Gail Schoenrock, Brad Collins, Candice Farrar, Chad Peters, Matt Reuter, and Brad Harvey. Four directors were presented the “Rookie of the Year” award. Receiving honors included Keith Koerselman, Jim Jauer, Chad Peters, and Ann Schoenrock. Long time director Greg Roepke who has been a part of the fair board for 34 years has decided to retire from the fair board. Following the annual meeting, the Fair Board held its regular monthly meeting, and elected its officers. Each of the officers retained their position with Tony Schroeder elected as president, Rich Benson was re-elected to vice president, Gail Schoenrock selected as secretary, and Michael Bietelspacher as the fair board’s tresurer. The fair board approved the date of December 8 at 7:00 p.m. to accept contractor bids for the renovation of the “Hall of 76” building.
Another Performance Added For “Over The River And Through The Woods”
(Le Mars) — If you have been wanting to see the theater production of “Over the River and Through the Woods, put on by the Le Mars Community Theater at the Postal Playhouse, but have found ticket sales have been sold out, you are now in luck. Co-director Angie Riedeman tells KLEM news that they have added another show. In addition to the Sunday matinee, another performance has been added to Sunday evening. Curtains will go up at 7:30 p.m. Riedeman says the decision was made to add another performance due to the overwhelming reception of the show, and ticket demand. The box office will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday through Saturday.
Sioux City Man Pleads Guilty To Fatal Hit-And-Run
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – A Sioux City man has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash in May.
23-year-old Mark Beltran entered his plea Thursday in Woodbury County District Court to one count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Misdemeanor traffic violations will be dismissed as part of an agreement.
Police say 70-year-old Robert Ibsgaard, also of Sioux City, was on a crosswalk on May 29th when he was struck by a car driven by Beltran. Ibsgaard died several days later. Police say Beltran then drove to a parking lot and ran off. He was arrested a short time later.
Beltran is scheduled to be sentenced on January 5th.
Mother Who Lied About Child’s Cancer Accepts Plea
ATLANTIC, Iowa (AP) – Prosecutors say a western Iowa mother accused of lying about her young daughter’s cancer diagnosis has accepted a plea deal.
Cass County Attorney Daniel Feistner said late Thursday that 30-year-old Leatha Slauson took the deal but the details of it won’t be released until Monday. It’s unclear how Slauson will plead or what penalties she could face.
Slauson is accused of telling her community that her 5-year-old daughter had terminal cancer and collecting donations for her treatment. An investigation this year determined the child was not sick. Slauson previously pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including child endangerment.
The child and her siblings have remained in the custody of their father since Slauson’s arrest in Aug. 21.
Police Arrest Mother Of 5 Year Old That Died From Overdose
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Des Moines police have arrested the mother of a 5-year-old who authorities say died of a drug overdose.
Sgt. Jason Halifax says medical examiners have determined that Jayda Canada died of a morphine overdose. Her mother, 24-year-old Tionne Bloodsaw, was arrested Thursday on charges of child endangerment, neglect and several drug counts. She’s being held on $150,000 bail. Another suspect is being sought. Online court records don’t list the name of Bloodsaw’s attorney.
Police say cocaine, morphine pills and other drugs and digital scales were found in Bloodsaw’s apartment when emergency crews were called there on Oct. 7 because Jayda wasn’t breathing. Bloodsaw’s 1-year-old child also was in the apartment and has been turned over to the care of the Iowa Department of Human Services.?
Senate To Vote On XL Keystone Pipeline On Tuesday
(Washington) — Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley says the controversial vote involving the proposed XL Keystone pipeline that will start in Canada and move south through the United States to Texas, may be voted upon by the U-S Senate as early as Tuesday. Grassley says he favors the construction of the oil pipeline.

Louisiana Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu chairs the Senate Energy Committee and is trying to get the pipeline vote approved before she faces a run-off election against her opponnet, Louisiana Congressman Bill Cassidy. Landrieu led in first round of voting last week, but Cassidy is favored to win the run-off. The pipeline vote could determine whether Landrieu will be able to retain her Senate seat.
