Le Mars Man Arrested On Burglary
(LeMars)– Nicholas Madsen, age 19 of Le Mars, IA was arrested at the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for 2 counts of Burglary 3rd. He was booked into the Plymouth County Jail and held on $5,000 bond.
Obama To Use Executive Powers
(Washington) — President Obama has said he intends to use his executive powers to approve a plan allowing millions of undocumented immigrants, that have come to live in the United States, to be given legal status. Many in Washington, especially Republicans, are opposed to offering what they call “amnesty” to illegal aliens. One concern is the cost factor. US Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Matthews-Burwell estimates American taxpayers are paying between $250 and $1000 per child every day to house, feed and clothe children of undocumented immigrants. During his weekly news conference, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says, if the estimates are accurate, he is astonished, and questions why it’s so expensive.

Board Of Regents Approved Plan To Restructure
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – The governing board for Iowa’s three public universities has approved plans for an administrative restructuring that could cut up to 250 positions and save millions.
The cuts are expected to be achieved through attrition and retirements over two years at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa.
The Board of Regents voted during a conference call Friday to move forward with plans to centralize how human resources, information technology and finance services are delivered. In many instances, employees will provide those functions across the universities as part of teams rather than working for specific programs. Technology and process changes should reduce the amount of employees needed.
The proposals were recommended by Deloitte Consulting, which was hired by the board to conduct an efficiency review.
Callender Unsure Of What To Do With Old Elevator
CALLENDER, Iowa (AP) – The small city of Callender is unsure what to do with an old grain elevator that was partially dismantled by a company that went out of business.
The grain elevator has been in Callender since the early 1900s and was set to be torn down last year. Mayor Randy Hanson said the elevator has been empty for at least 10 years.
The Fort Dodge Messenger reports the structure was sold a few years ago to MidStates Millwright & Builders Inc. It hired a Kentucky firm that’s now out of business to tear down the building and recycle the material.
Mid-States president Kevin Vier said he doesn’t know what will happen next for the grain elevator.
The Callender City Council is expected to discuss what to do with it at its Tuesday meeting.
