Wasmer Post #241 Participates In “Wreaths Across America”

(Le Mars) — The Wasmer Post #241 American Legion of Le Mars placed seven wreaths at the Plymouth County Veterans Memorial park on Saturday morning.  The ceremony was part of a nationwide event called “Wreaths Across America.”

The seven wreaths were placed to honor those men and women who have lost their lives while serving in the United States Military.  Post Commander Wayne Schipper offered some opening remarks regarding the wreath presentations.  Gary Konz placed the wreath in honor of those who served in the U.S. Army.  Former Marine, Ken Becker placed a wreath for the U.S. Marine Corps.  The U.S. Navy was recognized and honored when Herman “Bud” Vander Wel placed a wreath acknowledging that branch of the military.  Jack Frus, who served in the U.S. Air Force, placed a wreath honoring those who also served in the “wild blue yonder”.  Tom Tanoff placed a fifth wreath acknowledging those in the Coast Guard.  Mayor,and former veteran, 
Dick Kirchoff honored the U.S. Merchant Marines, and the final wreath was placed by Jim Rolfes honoring those past POWs and MIAs.
