Gehlen To Present “Anything Goes”

(Le Mars) — Gehlen Catholic High School is set to present its spring musical, entitled “Anything Goes”. Curtains will go up on Thursday and Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.  Director Courtney Sandbulte says she chose the light-hearted comical musical because she could envision many Gehlen high school students easily adapting to their characters on stage. She says the characters really fit the personalities of the students. Sandbulte explains the story-line of the musical.

The musical includes a cast of 36 people, including the backup singers.  Sandbulte says the play “Anything Goes” is full of high energy which she thought would fit well with the Gehlen student body.

Sophomore, Collin Wise, has the lead role for “Anything Goes” as the character Billy Crocker. Wise, the son of Mike and Diane Wise says his brothers helped talk him into participating.

Wise admits to being somewhat nervous about the opening of the musical.

Two of the female leads in the Gehlen musical production of “Anything Goes” include Seniors Josie Schipper and Carly Bolin. Both plan to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls following their Gehlen graduation.  Schipper tells of her interest in the “Anything Goes” musical.

The other female lead is Carly Bolin and she says the script is fun which lead to her interest in the musical.

Like her colleague, Josie Schipper, Bolin also was in the Gehlen musical “Guys and Dolls”.  She also starred in a murder mystery “The Butler Did It” in which she was found guilty of murder.  Bolin tells of her Gehlen High School highlights.

Two of the supporting male roles have been assigned to Juniors Joe Schuck and Andrew Kordick.  Schuck plays the captain of the USS American.

Schuck says it was Gehlen’s music director, Terra Falkena that approached him about being in the play.

Andrew Kordick is cast as a wealthy Englishman on board the USS American.  He says rehearsals have been an enjoyable experience.

Kordick says the cast has been rehearsing the musical play for the last two months and he says its been rewarding to see the cast members grow and develop their characters.

Tickets are selling for $5 for adults and  $3 for students.  The Gehlen students will perform the musical production on Thursday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the Kellen Memorial Gymnasium.
