Fire Department Respond To One Vehicle Accident
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department had a busy night. First, they responded to a one vehicle accident near West Le Mars on Highway 3 near Kestrel Avenue. When fire fighters and sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene at about 2:18 a.m. the car was on fire. The driver of the vehicle was was pulled away from the burning vehicle by passerby’s who came upon the accident scene. The Le Mars Ambulance also responded to the scene. The male victim has been identified as 40 year old Jessie Compton of Decatur, Nebraska. Compton suffered injuries and was transported to the Floyd Valley Hospital, then was airlifted via medical helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. His condition is considered serious at this time. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident. Fire officials were on the scene for approximately 45 minutes.
Wells South Ice Cream Production Plant Encounters Ammonia Leak
(Le Mars) — Within minutes after returning to the station following the accident, the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department responded to a call of an ammonia leak at the Wells Enterprises south ice cream production plant. Fortunately, the leak was small and Wells employees were able to stop the leak within a few minutes. Fire officials were called to help ventilate the facilities. There were no injuries as a result of the ammonia leak. Fire officials were on the scene for about half an hour.
Joy Hollow Log Cabin Successfully Moved From Fairgrounds To Museum
(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Historical Museum officials are breathing a sigh of relief. After a long wait, the 115 year old Joy Hollow log cabin was successfully moved from the Plymouth County Fairgrounds to its new home at the museum. Friday’s move marks the fourth time the cabin has been relocated. Dale Morrow of Morrow Housemoving Company of Jackson, Nebraska says everything went smoothly with the move. He says there were no traffic tie-ups or low hanging trees or electrical wires to worry about. The cabin was able to make the move intact, with no bricks or logs falling during the move.
The moving of the log cabin drew a number of spectators to witness the event that took an hour and forty-five minutes to complete. Wayne Schlotfeltd is a director with the Plymouth County Historical Museum. He says the cabin’s restoration will begin around July 1st. He says he doesn’t know the timetable for completion of the project.
Assisting with the cabin’s move were the Le Mars Police Department, MidAmerican Energy, and Premier Communications.
Floyd Valley Hospital Golf Tournament Benefits Pediatric Care Unit
(Le Mars) — On Tuesday, golfers at the Willow Creek Golf Course will be helping Floyd Valley Hospital’s pediatric care unit. It’s all part of the Floyd Valley Hospital’s annual golf tournament. Floyd Valley’s Community Relations Manager Ann Cole-Nelson says this marks the 18th year for the golf tournament.
