Kelle Susemihl Wins National History Day Exhibit Contest

(Le Mars) — A Le Mars High School junior recently was in Washington D.C. for the
National History Day Competition. Little, did Kelli Susemihl realize that her hard
work, research, and dedication to her project would result in her winning the
national competition. Kelli chose to feature the railroads for her history day
exhibition project.

Jeanne Rust was the teacher that oversaw and supervised Kelli on her history
exhibition. She says it was her goal to reach the national finals competition.

Susemihl will be a senior at Le Mars Community this fall. She says she is
fascinated with history, and she talks about her chosen topic and some of the extra
work she did for her project.

Susemihl says her display was six feet in height, and featured a picture of
dynamite along with railroad tracks. She explains what the national judges had
thought about her history day project.

Rust says when students compete for the national competition held at our nation’s
capital, they all share the same focus. Rust says the atmosphere of the contest is
exciting.
