(Le Mars) — A head-on collision accident Sunday evening involving a semi-truck and trailer and a passenger vehicle car resulted in a fatality. The tragic accident happened on Highway 3 about two miles east of Le Mars at about 11:30 p.m. The female driver of the passenger car is identified as Donna Wynn of Sioux City. Wynn was traveling west bound on Highway 3, when the passenger vehicle she was driving, a 2011 Honda CR-V collided with the semi truck and trailer. Wynn was trapped in her vehicle when the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department had to extricate her. She was initially transported to Floyd Valley Healthcare of Le Mars and then airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City where she was pronounced dead. Wynn was a long-time teacher with the Sioux City Schools. She had retired in 2011. Wynn was named as the Iowa History Teacher of the Year in 2009. The semi, owned and operated by Jason Ducommun of Larrabee, IA, was eastbound on Hwy 3. The semi was pulling an empty trailer owned by Hy-Vee Ducommun suffered only minor injuries. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s office is still investigating the accident. Traffic was diverted away from the accident scene for several hours. Assisting at the scene were the Le Mars Fire and Rescue, the Le Mars Ambulance, and the Le Mars Police Department.
