Remsen To Hold “Old Fashion Christmas” Tonight

(Remsen) — Remsen will begin its Christmas holiday season with it’s version of an “Old Fashion Christmas” this evening. Karen Harnack is with the Remsen Chamber of Commerce and says the activities focuses on the Christmas Tree located in the center of town.


Harnack tells the story of this year’s Community Christmas tree located at downtown.

The Remsen Chamber official says the Old Fashion Christmas event will also offer opportunities for people to roast marshmallows.

Harnack says when the large Christmas tree is lit, people are encouraged to join in with the singing of Christmas carols.

Harnack says this marks the 13th year for Remsen to celebrate the Old Fashion Christmas, and she reflects back on how the Old Fashion Christmas first got started.

 

Eight Attorneys Seek Position As 3B District Judge

(Sioux City) — The 3B Judicial Nominating Commission has received eight applications for the district judge position that exists as a result of the retirement of District Judge Mary Jane Sokolovske. The attorneys applying to fill the judicial vacancy include:
Tod Deck, Judicial Magistrate and Deck Law, LLP, Sioux City,
David Dawson, Assistant County Attorney-Woodbury County, Sioux City,
Zachary Hindman with the Mayne, Arneson, Hindman, Hisey & Daane law firm of Sioux City,
Michael Jacobsma, from the Jacobsma & Clabaugh PLC, Orange City,
Roseanne Lienhard Plante, Second Opinion Legal Center and Mediation Services,
Hinton,
Billy Oyadare, Attorney – State Public Defender’s Office, Sioux City,
Julie Schumacher, District Associate Judge, Schleswig, Iowa and
Darin Raymond, Plymouth County Attorney, LeMars, Iowa

Each applicant will be interviewed on December 9th, at the
Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City, Iowa.
Applicants must be members of the bar of Iowa, residents of the Judicial District 3B, and of such age that they will be able to serve an initial and one regular term of office before reaching the age of seventy-two years.
Judicial District 3B consists of Crawford, Ida, Monona, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury counties.
The Commission will submit the names of two nominees to Governor Branstad. Governor Branstad will then appoint one of the nominees to be a district judge. The judge selected will ultimately stand for retention election.

Delana Ihrke of Le Mars serves as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission.

 

Salvation Army Seeking For Volunteers

(Des Moines) — The Christmas holidays means seeing people at street corners ringing the bell for donations to be put into those little red kettles so the Salvation Army can then offer those donations to the less fortunate. However, the Salvation army is looking for volunteers.

 

Gun Supporters Looking Forward To Trump As President

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Firearms enthusiasts who embraced Donald Trump’s campaign and his full-throated support of the Second Amendment are expecting a sweeping expansion of gun rights under his administration and a Congress firmly
in Republican hands.
Among their priorities: eliminating gun-free zones at schools, reducing requirements for background checks and ensuring that concealed carry handgun permits from one state are recognized everywhere in the U.S.National Rifle Association executive Wayne LaPierre is telling supporters that “this is our historic moment to go on offense.” He’s calling on
Congress to immediately pass a nationwide concealed carry reciprocity law.
But in pursuing their agenda, the gun lobby and its GOP supporters could find themselves at odds with two other tenets of Republican orthodoxy: states’ rights and local control.

 

Clear Lake Police Officer Charged With Domestic Assault

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) – A Clear Lake police officer has been charged with misdemeanor domestic assault.
Court records say a preliminary hearing for 36-year-old Ryan Eskildsen is scheduled for Dec. 16.
Authorities have not released any details about the incident, which occurred Tuesday in Clear Lake. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case.
Eskildsen joined the Clear Lake force in 2002. Chief Pete Roth says Eskildsen has been placed on paid administrative leave.
