(Le Mars) — Gehlen Catholic held a pep rally Tuesday afternoon inside the Deb Campbell Memorial Gymnasium to officially send off the girls basketball team to Des Moines to compete in the Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament. Following the pep rally, the Gehlen Lady Jays held one more practice session before packing their suitcases for the the state’s capital city.

Gehlen Catholic is scheduled to play today (Wednesday) in the opening round of the 1A Girls State Tournament beginning at 5:00 p.m. from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Several parents of the team members were on hand, and wished the team well and gave a cheer as the team rolled out of the Gehlen Catholic parking lot. The parents also packed several laundry baskets filled with goodies and snacks for the girls. The Lady Jays will face number 2 seeded and state second ranked Marquette Catholic. KLEM radio, with Sports Director Denny Callahan, will have the play-by-play action.
