Le Mars Public Works Department To Repair Several Streets
(Le Mars) — The City Of Le Mars has hired Knife River to mill and overlay a few streets and intersections in town. They will be starting on Monday May 4th 2020. We will have some temporary street closures/detours with some of these projects while they are working . Here is the lists of areas they will be working through out the week. 2nd Ave S.E. from 3rd St. S.E. to 6th St. S.E. They will mill and overlay entire 3 blocks.
9th St S.W. from Central Ave going west to 2nd Ave. S.W. They will mill the edges and overlay the entire street.
2nd St. N.W. from Central Ave. going west to 1st Ave. N.W. They will mill the gutter line on both sides of street and only overlay the those edges.
1st Ave N.W. from 1st St. N.E. to 2nd St. N.E. They will mill the gutter line on both sides of street and only overlay those edges
12th St. S.E. and 7th Ave. S.E. intersection. They will mill and overlay the entire intersection.
6th Ave. S.E. and 12th St. S.E. , There is a small section on 6th Ave coming up to 12th St. that they will mill and overlay.
6th Ave. S.W. and Lincoln. This will be the approach on both sides of the railroad tracks. City crews will mill and Knife River will overlay.
12th St. S.E. from 2nd Ave. S.E. going west up to 4th Ave. S.E. They will mill the street.
Iowa Positive Coronavirus Cases Approach 9200
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Department of Public Health reports 528 new positive cases of coronavirus have run the state’s total to nine-thousand-169. Nine more deaths were reported Sunday afternoon. Iowa has recorded 184 deaths as a result of the COVID-19 virus. 77 percent of new positive cases
today are in the 22 counties where restrictions remain in place. The I-D-P-H reports more than 44 thousand people taking the coronavirus test have been negative. A little over 36 percent of the Iowans who tested positive have officially recovered. 378 are currently hospitalized, and 3,325 Iowans have recovered. At this time, 1 in 59 Iowans have already been tested. According

Reynolds Defends Testing Program
(Des Moines) — Governor Reynolds was asked about the validity and accuracy of the tests provided through the TestIowa.com after a Utah doctor made the claim the tests were not accurate enough to make solid conclusions.
TestsIowa.com was introduced to the state after the same firm started testing in Utah. Governor Reynolds defended the tests which are conducted after people complete an assessment on-line, and whether it is determined if the individual may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus. Reynolds says all
testing needs to be validated through the Center for Disease Control.
Sarah Reisetter with the Iowa Department of Public Health also commented on the tests that have come under question.
The governor stated that all labs have to go through the same testing analysts.
Spencer Woman Who Had Experimental Treatments Dies From ALS
(Spencer, IA) — A Spencer woman who has been battling a rare form of A-L-S lost her fight to Lou Gehrig’s disease. The parents of 26-year-old Jaci Hermstad says she died Friday morning. The family announced last week that Jaci had entered hospice care after receive several experimental treatments for A-L-S. Her parents posted on Facebook, “our warrior angel
here on Earth, has answered the call to join the angels in Heaven, reunited with her beautiful twin sister Alex.” Her sister died on Valentine’s Day 2011 and Jaci was diagnosed with A-L-S on February 14th, 2019. Her parents called Jaci “a hero and a pioneer who blazed a trail for groundbreaking A-L-S
treatments that will hopefully save countless others from this terrible disease.” Congressman Steve King commented on Jaci Hermsted during his interview with KLEM news.
Des Moines Schools To Hold Virtual Graduation Ceremonies
(Des Moines, IA) — In Des Moines, the Class of 2020 won’t totally miss out on graduation. Officials with Des Moines Public Schools say they will host those graduation ceremonies online next month. Virtual commencement ceremonies are set for Saturday, June 27th. Each school in the district will host its own ceremony and they will be broadcast on D-M-P-S Television, as
well as the district’s website and social media accounts.
Ankeny Woman Accused Of Injuring Her Child
(Ankeny, IA) — An Ankeny woman is accused of causing the scratches and bruises doctors found on an infant last March. Twenty-eight-year-old Breanna Carol Henderson was taken into custody on suspicion of child endangerment.
Doctors told police the injuries weren’t the result of an accident.
Henderson was arrested early Sunday morning, then released on bail later the same day. A no-contact order has been issued to protect the victim.
Cedar Rapids Police Arrest 3rd Suspect In October Fatal Shooting
(Cedar Rapids, IA) — Cedar Rapids police say they have taken a third suspect into custody in the fatal shooting of a man last October. 21-year-old Kiara Kathy La Shae Morrise is charged with being an accessory after the fact. Murder charges have been filed against Todd R. Jenkins.
Investigators say he fired the shot that killed Reginal Ward. Morrise is accused of meeting with Jenkins several times after refusing to cooperate with the police investigation. Forty-seven-year-old Dawn Louise Benavidez is also charged with being an accessory.
