School Board Approves Feuerhelm As New School Board Director And Approves Milk and Bread Contracts

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Community Board of Education met last evening and among other business, appointed a new director for district 5. Mackenzie Lang had to resign the position since she was moving to an area that no longer served the rural areas of the Le Mars Community school district. Jill Feuerhelm was nominated to serve on the school board, representing
District 5.

Shortly after the school board approved Jill Feuehelm to the board of education, she was given the oath of office by school board secretary Lisa Boehm.

In other business, the school board approved the milk and bread contracts for the upcoming year. School superintendent Dr. Steve Webner informed the board there were only two submitted bids for the milk contract, Hyland Dairy of Omaha, and Dean’s Foods with its processing facility located in Le Mars.

Next, was discussion and approval of the annual bread contract for the school district for the school year 2020-2021.

The school board approved Dean’s Foods to distribute milk to the school district, and they approved Casey’s Bakery of Sioux Center with the bread contract.

 

 

Corn Planting Complete

(Undated) — The U-S-D-A says the corn planting in Iowa is virtually complete — and 97 percent of the corn in the ground has already emerged. That’s more than two weeks ahead of last year and ten days ahead of the five-year average. Eighty-five percent of the corn is rated in good to excellent condition. The soybean crop is not too far behind — with just three percent
left to be planted. That three weeks ahead of last year and 12 days ahead of average. The report says 87 percent of beans have emerged and 82 percent are in good to excellent condition.

 

 

IWD Director In Washington For A Hearing Restarting Economy

(Washington, DC) — The head of Iowa Workforce Development is scheduled to testify before a U-S Senate panel this (Tuesday) afternoon about critical troubles that are hurting efforts to jumpstart the state and national economies. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is chairing the Finance Committee hearing that will feature I-W-D director Beth Townsend, who Grassley says
will lay out the complications she’s seeing in Iowa’s workforce. Grassley says they are going to focus on the problem that developed with the federal relief payments — where a person who brought home a weekly paycheck for one thousand dollars prior to ” Grassley says there are ideas circulating about
how to remedy this problem, but no solutions are nailed down as yet.

 

Many Counties Under Flash Flood Watch

(Undated) — A flash flood watch covers 61 counties across central and eastern Iowa. It was triggered by rain that is caused by the remnants of tropical storm blowing up from the Gulf of Mexico. The National Weather Service expects heavy rain will be off-and-on much of the day and perhaps into tonight. Some areas of the state could see four inches of rain by tomorrow (Wednesday.)

 

 

Blood Center Seeking To Replenish After Pandemic Cancels Drives

(Des Moines, IA) The Life Serve Blood Center in Des Moines says the coronavirus outbreak forced it to cancel more than 500 blood drives this year due. Life Serve is now asking businesses to host summer blood drives to make up more for the loss of more than 13-thousand blood donations. A spokesperson for the center says a single trauma victim can use fifty units or more of blood.
