(Le Mars) — Saturday marked the start of spring, and although we have enjoyed what can be considered as generally a mild winter, with the exception of about a week in February when we had sub-zero temperatures for nearly a week. People took advantage of the warmer temperatures and nice conditions, during the first day of spring with many seen walking in their local neighborhoods. However, the winds were fairly strong for the first day of spring, which is characteristic for March winds. Wind gusts were measured at around 35 mph during the mid-afternoon. Another indication of spring is arriving are the geese that are returning north as part of their annual migration path. A flock of 20 geese could be seen enjoying the nice weather at the pond located west of Walmart during the first day of spring.
