Le Mars Boy’s Track Gets Ready for 2021 State Track Meet

The 2021 State Track and Field Meet starts tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM in Des Moines, and the Le Mars Boy’s Track Team is sending six events to state. Coach Al Engebretson’s team had to re-learn a lot of the skills they were unable to utilize when the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19.

As they got better and better, the Bulldog boys used that success to fuel the success they now see heading to Des Moines.

Brandon Vander Sluis, a junior thrower for the Bulldogs, broke a 46-year old school record in the shot put at the state qualifying meet. Engebretson says that it has been fun getting to simply watch him throw.

The key for Engebretson’s team now is to cross the finish line of the season both literally and figuratively.

The Bulldog boys are sending six events to the 2021 State Track meet including:

  • 400m Dash – Finals at 1:40 PM Thursday
  • 400m Hurdles –  Finals at 11:20 AM Friday
  • 4x800m Relay – Finals at 12:10 PM Thursday
  • 4x110m Shuttle Hurdle – Prelims at 2:00 PM Thursday
  • Discus – Event at 11:30 AM Thursday
