100 Years of Remsen St. Mary’s Baseball

Prior to the alumni game Sunday Remsen St. Mary’s recognized two people that had significant contributions to RSM baseball.

First, longtime KLEM radio sports announcer Denny Callahan was honored for his service and dedication to our school’s athletic programs over years. Denny received an autographed football from last fall’s 8 player state championship team. Denny also received an autgraphed basketball from this past winters RSM boys basketball team. Denny’s final sports game he broadcast was that state basketball tour game between RSM vs Grandview Christan. Denny also received an autographed baseball from this summers team. Denny has worked tirelessly promoting the young people of NW Iowa and all of us at RSM wanted to show our appreciation. In the picture with Denny are 3 seniors on this years baseball team L-R Levi Waldschmitt, Blaine Harpenau and Xavier Galles…..In the other picture we have current RSM baseball coach Dean Harpenau presenting a plaque to former RSM assistant baseball coach Mike Meyer. Meyer was an assistant coach for Hall of Fame coach Marv Thelen. In his career at RSM from 1979 – 1987 Meyer was a part of 8 State baseball tour. teams that won 6 state championships. Meyer is currently still in education and coaching at Gehlen Catholic where he has guided 11 volleyball teams to the state volleyball tour. Meyer also guided the RSM 1984 volleyball team to the state volleyball tour.
