Le Mars Shutouts Storm Lake to Advance to Regional Semifinals

Le Mars softball advanced on in the regional postseason with an 8-0 over Storm Lake last night.

The Bulldogs scored early and often on Storm Lake in the opening round win. Le Mars opened up with two runs in the second inning off of a ground ball that led to a fielding error. Libby Leraas tacked on a RBI base hit in the third inning. Maggie Allen added her own RBI base hit in the fourth. Morgan Marienau plated another run with a base hit in the fifth. Finally, the Bulldogs plated three runs in the sixth with RBIs from Payton Marienau, Alivia Milbrodt, and Libby Leraas.

Head Coach Keely Steffen says that the ability to score runs throughout the game is something that she has been hoping for her team to do all season.

The run production came from the entire starting lineup. Eight players accounted for the eight runs scored and five players accounted for the six RBIs. Coach Steffen says that her depth at the plate is so important.

While the Bulldogs were scoring regularly at the plate, Alivia Milbrodt was sitting down Tornadoes with incredible ease. She capped off a complete game shutout allowing five hits and striking out 12. Coach Steffen values the leadership of Milbrodt as a senior and the hard work she puts in day after day.

Le Mars moves on to take on Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Saturday at 7:00. The Bulldogs and Warriors met up four times this year as part of the MRAC schedule with Le Mars taking three of the four. Coach Steffen wants her team to remain confident heading into the regional semifinals.

The Bulldog record is now 25-12 moving on in the postseason. The semifinal game between Le Mars and Sergeant Bluff-Luton will be aired live on KLEM with a first pitch of 7:00 tomorrow evening on KLEM.
