Garden Fresh Produce Now Available At Farmer’s Market

(Le Mars) — If you are wanting locally grown fresh produce this weekend, you may find it at a roadside food stand, or at a farmer’s market. Locally grown sweetcorn is now available, and at the Le Mars Farmer’s Market some vendors, like Hally McNaughton has fresh out-of-the garden produce. As for McNaughton, she is selling organic grown garlic.

This marks the first weekend of this growing season that McNaughton has been a vendor at the local farmers market, although she says she has marketed her garlic bulbs in past years at the Le Mars Farmers Market. McNaughton says growing garlic takes some patience.

McNaughton sells her garlic bulbs in groups of three, and she offers the choice of either small, medium, or large garlic bulbs. Rob and Joyce Scheitler are regular vendors to the Le Mars Farmers Market. Rob Scheitler says today’s market is featuring 12 different vendors. Besides his usual baked goods, Scheitler is selling fresh cut green beans from his garden.

Scheitler says he and his wife have been busy in their kitchen this week leading up to today’s farmers market.

Schietler says the Farmer’s market will be open next Saturday when RAGBRAI comes to town.

The Le Mars Farmer’s Market is located on Prospect Street behind Cork-It, and its hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
