(Le Mars) — The weather forecast is calling for a return of the extreme hot temperatures with highs in the 90’s.  Beth Doran, Iowa State University Extension Beef Specialist for northwest Iowa says cattle production suffers during these times of hot temperatures.  Doran says many cattle producers have had to sprinkle water on their feedlot herds.

(Le Mars) — At the recent Plymouth County Fair, a new food vendor was introduced called “Milk and Cookies” which sold either white or chocolate milk and chocolate chip cookies.  Although the concept is new to the Plymouth County Fair, the Iowa State Fair has been marketing chocolate chip cookies for quite some time, and this past year, the Iowa State Fair Board approved of purchasing the cookie business from a retiring vendor.  Dave Hoffman of Le Mars serves on the board of directors with the Iowa State Fair Board, and is a past president of the state fair.  He talks about how and why the Iowa State Fair wanted to get into the cookie business, and the reasons for constructing a new building with the sole purpose of selling warm, fresh from the oven, chocolate chip cookies.

Hoffman says the state fair has already used the facility and sold cookies last Valentine’s Day.
