Floyd Valley Healthcare To Begin Specialty Clinics And Therapy Renovation Project

(Le Mars) — Construction will soon begin on the Floyd Valley Healthcare expansion for the specialty clinics and therapy clinics.  According to Dustin Wright, CEO of Floyd Valley Healthcare, the project will consist of several phases with the first phase of demolishing the former Le Mars Senior Citizens Center.

Wright says the second phase will be the installation of the geo-thermal wells.

Wright says the project will begin within the next few weeks and it will last an expected 18 months before construction will be completed during the spring of 2023.

 

 

 

Iowa State University Extension And Outreach To Host Land Lease Seminar

(Le Mars) — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host its popular seminar focusing on land lease agreements scheduled for Wednesday, August 11th beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Plymouth County Extension Services offices and Le Mars Convention Center.  Farm Management Specialist Gary Wright says the seminar will focus on considerations for leasing land.

Wright says the seminar usually lasts approximately two and a half hours.  He says there are several items to be discussed and considered when entering a land lease agreement.

The ISU Extension Farm Management Specialist says most lease agreements are on a cash term basis.  However, he says there are some crop share agreements.

Wright suggests farmers and landowners pre-register for the seminar.  The cost may vary depending on the county hosting the event, but Wright says the registration fee will be around $20 and will include all the materials.  Plymouth County’s land lease meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, August 11th starting at 9:00 a.m.

 

 

 

 

No Injuries Reported In Explosion Of Home In North-Central Iowa

(Duncombe, IA)  —  Authorities in Hamilton County report no injuries were caused when a home in a rural area near Duncombe was flattened by an explosion Sunday night.  Homeowner Donald Christopherson says the home was unoccupied when the blast happened at about 9:00 p-m.  Investigators say debris was found up to 100 yards away.  A neighbor told authorities about hearing the explosion and being able to see the flames over the cornfield located between the two properties.  Crews from four fire departments were on the scene for about two hours monitoring hot spots.  The cause of the explosion is being investigated.

 

 

Visitors Worldwide Will Attend Field Of Dreams Game

(Dyersville, IA) — Organizers of Thursday’s Field of Dreams game say visitors from all over the world will be arriving in Dyersville this week. The contest between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees will be the first Major League Baseball regular-season game ever played in Iowa. Local businesses and residents are preparing for hundreds of visitors. One business owner says the Field of Dreams does draw a lot of people to the northeast Iowa community, but nothing like what’s coming Thursday. The locals say they have been preparing for this for months.

 

 

 

Third Person Charged In New Year’s Day Fatal Shooting In Morningside

(Sioux City, IA) — The third person charged in the New Year’s Day fatal shooting in Morningside has entered a guilty plea to a charge of second-degree murder. Eighteen-year-old Carlos Morales entered the plea during a Friday appearance in Woodbury County Court. Authorities say Morales, his brother Christopher, and Anthony Bauer fired dozens of shots into a home just before 1:00 a-m. Mia Kritis was killed and at least three other people attending a house party were wounded. The other two suspects in the shooting have also pleaded guilty and have been sentenced to long prison terms. Twenty-year-old Liliana Gutierrez is charged with reckless use of a firearm. Prosecutors say she drove the three shooters to and from the scene.

 

 

 

Appeals Court Upholds Murder Conviction Of Ottumwa Man

(Ottumwa, IA)  —  The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the second-degree murder conviction of a 21-year-old Ottumwa man.  A Wapello County jury found Jacob Heckethorn guilty two years ago.  Heckethorn had been accused of shooting William Shettlesworth to death in August 2018.  He appealed the conviction, citing a lack of evidence.  Heckethorn says his actions were taken in self-defense.  The appeals court also upheld his 50-year prison sentence.
