Le Mars Drops Regional Opener at Lewis Central

Le Mars volleyball faced a tall task to open the regional volleyball playoffs on Tuesday. Le Mars made the two hour trek south to take on Lewis Central in Council Bluffs and lost to the Titans in straight sets 3-0.

It was all Titans right from the beginning of the match. Lewis Central scored the match’s first seven points to lead big and never look back. Le Mars was able to keep it close early in the second half, but, for the most part, Lewis Central had control. Le Mars head volleyball coach Jakki Tentinger says it was tough for her team to get going because they were running a newer rotation.

This change in rotation allowed for some newer faces to get good valuable playing time. Coach Tentinger says that, considering the situation, her offense got some valuable output from under-used players.

The Bulldogs were led by Libby Leraas in a number of categories. The junior had nine kills and 10 digs. Despite the lopsided score, Coach Tentinger was pleased to see that her team never gave up. While this won’t benefit her team this year, she says it will be extremely valuable for the future of the program.

Le Mars now turns to the offseason where they graduate only one senior, Kelsey Feuerhelm, off this year’s team. Coach Tentinger will look for her team to remain engaged with the program even when not in season.

The Bulldogs wrap up the season with a 7-28 record overall and 1-6 in the MRAC to finish seventh in the conference.
