Le Mars Drops to 4-4 With Loss at Spencer

Le Mars football went to Spencer with the hopes of improving their playoff standing in Class 4A and left with a 42-27 loss at the hands of the Tigers.

Though the score may not suggest it, the Bulldogs started off stride for stride with Spencer. Le Mars was down by one point heading in the locker room for halftime. Le Mars Head Coach Ken Vigdal says that they were able to stick around due to their success with an unbalanced line offensively.

On the downside, one of the reasons Le Mars couldn’t pull away was because of the big scores Spencer had. The Tigers scored two of their touchdowns on kick returns on Friday. Coach Vigdal says that those boiled down to his kick coverage team not getting back to their lane assignments.

Le Mars entered the fourth quarter down 27-12. Despite this, Le Mars was able to find a way to keep it a one score game for a majority of the fourth quarter. Coach Vigdal says this is a result of messaging he’s been delivering to his team all season.

The Bulldogs are at home to round out the regular season this Friday hosting Fort Dodge. The Bulldogs are out of playoff contention but still have a shot at a winning record. Coach Vigdal knows that Fort Dodge will be a team that will open their playbook all the way the entire night.

The Bulldogs and Dodgers kick off at 7:00 PM from Jim Lorenzen Field on Friday.
