Bolton Honored As School District’s “Employee Of The Month”
(Le Mars) — A teacher’s associate at Franklin Elementary School was honored this Monday morning as the School District’s “Employee of the Month”. Danelle Bolton was in tears when school officials entered her classroom and she quickly realized she was being honored. Bolton’s parents, brother, and sister Julie Roy, along with her husband, were all on hand for the award presentation, and Danelle’s daughters were able to join the ceremony through video zoom. School Foundation board member Deb Ahlers read the nomination that was submitted by Benji Kasel and Kayla Koopman.
Bolton has been with the Le Mars Community school district for nine years. Among her entire family including her parents, brother, and sister Julie Roy, the former Spanish teacher for Le Mars Community, and her daughters there are 185 years of collective education teaching within the family.
Bomgaars Contributes Proceeds From “Ladies Night” Shopping Spree To Floyd Valley Healthcare
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Bomgaars store made a contribution to Floyd Valley Healthcare Monday afternoon. A check for just under $650 was presented from store manager Tom Sauer to Floyd Valley Healthcare Foundation manager, Amy Harnack. This is the fourth year of the program from which Bomgaars designates a Sunday afternoon and evening in October as “Ladies Night” offering discount sales on different merchandise that is sold on the particular day. A percentage of the sales goes for proceeds to assist area hospitals with cancer research and expenditures associated with cancer patient care. Over the course of the four years of the program, Bomgaars has contributed around $3,000 to Floyd Valley Healthcare from proceeds of the “Ladies Night” shopping event.
Iowa Man Charged With Murder For Death Of Woman Found In Burning Home
(Mason City, IA) — An Iowa man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in a burning home. Twenty-four-year-old Tonette Wolfe died last September. She and 28-year-old Dominick Degner had lived together in the Mason City home that was on fire. Degner is in custody in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
Former Governor Urges Iowans To Support Carbon Pipeline
(Ames, IA) — Former Governor Terry Branstad is urging Iowans to support a new carbon pipeline that would benefit the state’s renewable fuels industry. The pipeline would take the carbon dioxide produced at Iowa ethanol plants and pump it through about 700 miles of underground pipeline – joining another pipeline that already passes through North and South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota. Branstad is sending a letter to residents in 30 counties in support of Ames-based Summit Carbon Solutions.
Casey’s General Stores Buys Competitor As Part Of 3-Year Plan
(Ankeny, IA) — Casey’s General Stores says its purchase of 40 convenience stores from a competitor is part of a three-year expansion plan. Casey’s announced it had closed a sales agreement with Pilot Corporation in a news release. The Ankeny-based company says the deal will expand its footprint through Tennessee and Kentucky. Pilot is said to be getting out of the convenience store field while maintaining some of its travel centers.
Iowa Man Continues Innocence Claim At Sentencing In Linn County Court
(Cedar Rapids, IA) — An Iowa man continued his self-defense claims after he was sentenced to 57 years in prison in Linn County. Drew Blahnik reportedly made it a point not to apologize to the victim’s family. Blahnik was found guilty of stabbing Chris Bagley to death three years ago. Bagley went missing in December 2018 and his body wasn’t found for more than two months. A jury found Blahnik guilty of second-degree murder. A second man was sentenced to 47 years in prison for his role in Bagley’s death.
