Three Plymouth County Athletes Named All-State – Letsche Named Coach of the Year by IGCA

The Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) has released their all-state honorees for the 2022 girls basketball season. Three Plymouth County athletes were honored by the association for their play this season.

Class 1A First Team:

Emily Dreckman – MMCRU
McKenzie Goodwin – Kingsley-Pierson

Class 1A Second Team:

Ellie Hilbrands – MMCRU

For all three athletes, the honors earned this season are their second all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Emily Dreckman was second team all-state last year, McKenzie Goodwin was second team all-state last year, and Ellie Hilbrands was third team all-state last year.

The Iowa Girls Coaches Association names a coach of the year in all five classes of girls basketball. MMCRU’s Gillian Letsche was named the Class 1A Coach of the Year after leading the Royals to their second consecutive state tournament appearance. The Royals made plenty of noise in Des Moines after winning their first game at the state tournament since the 1986 MMC Eagles. The followed that up with a win over three-time defending state champion Newell-Fonda in the semifinals before losing the championship game by three points to perennial power Bishop Garrigan. The coach of the year honor is Letsche’s first as head coach of the Royals.
