Le Mars Girls Soccer Wins First Ever Varsity Contest

The Le Mars girls soccer team played their first ever varsity soccer game on Friday night. They came away with a 4-0 win over West Sioux to open their inaugural varsity season at 1-0.

The Bulldogs came out of the gate with the speed and momentum on the offensive end. The pressure was put on West Sioux’s defensive half for a large majority of the contest.

That’s Bulldog head coach Nicole Green. She says that pressure came from a change that resulted after last year’s junior varsity season.

Zoe Wittkop was the star of the show for the first ever varsity game in program history. Not only did she make history by scoring the first varsity goal in program history, she continued that history by scoring the first three goals en route to the program’s first varsity hat trick. Wittkop attributes her success in the win to the work she puts in practice and good teamwork.

Wittkop also says she utilized that space from her teammates to put tough long shots on net.

Coach Green says that Wittkop brings a leadership aspect that makes her so crucial to the team’s success.

Coach Green liked what she saw in the team’s first varsity game. This did give her an opportunity to highlight some things to work on. She says her team needs to be better at using the whole field.

The Bulldogs also got a goal late in the second half from Athiei Malueth to help seal the win. Le Mars outshot West Sioux 10-1 to dominate the game. Bulldogs host Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson to open MRAC play on Tuesday at Jim Lorenzen Field.
