Gehlen Catholic Softball Wins Tight Contest with South O’Brien

Gehlen Catholic softball improved to 2-1 in War Eagle Conference play with a 2-1 victory over South O’Brien on Wednesday night.

A 2-1 score suggests the obvious that the game was close and entertaining throughout. Gehlen Catholic head coach Tony Gunter says these are the games he lives for as a coach.

The Jays got both of their runs in the top of the fourth inning on three two-out hits with RBIs coming from Jayden Barthole and Haley Lubben. Coach Gunter says he was thankful for those runs to come across. He also says he would have liked to see more.

Rylee Schnepf resorted back to all-state form in the win over the Wolverines. She allowed just three hits, one unearned run and struck out 11 on the way towards a Gehlen Catholic win. Coach Gunter says she knows how to take charge of a game.

The Jays have another jam-packed weekend on the horizon with Harris-Lake Park coming to town next. Then, the Jays along with Le Mars will host the Le Mars Softball Classic on Friday. Coach Gunter says, if the Jays can continue to improve as a team, the wins will come.

Gehlen Catholic is now 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the War Eagle Conference. South O’Brien fell to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
