Children’s Theatre Takes the Stage During ICD

(Le Mars) Thirty-one Le Mars area kids are participating this Saturday in a performance on The Olson Cultural Events Center stage.  “The Internet is Distract—OH LOOK A KITTEN!” By Ian McWethy, will begin at 2:30pm as part of Ice Cream Days entertainment. This short play is a comedy that mocks the internet as a wacky place where boxing cats, Facebook lurkers, and pig-throwing games threaten to take over a student’s schoolwork.

The show encompasses kids ages 4-17 filling all the roles it takes to make a show happen from costuming and props, to technical support and acting.

Aiden Sailer is one of those performers.  He tells us a little more about the plot of Saturdays performance.

Aiden said his favorite way to participate in theater is acting on stage. In addition to stage time, he’s enjoyed seeing all the props and costumes come together for the show. His favorite stage accessory is the big kitten head, understandably as he is playing the part of the kitten.

Lane Harpenau is another one of the performers in Saturdays “The Internet is Distract—OH LOOK A KITTEN!” and says the internet is a big distraction for him with all the videos and video games available at his fingertips. He plays the character Mark Nutter who wears sunglasses, perhaps to hide his sadness?

Lane adds that the best part of this Children’s Theater performance has been spending time with friends.

The Children’s Theater performance at the Olson, under the auspices of The Le Mars Community Theatre, kicks off at 2:30 this Saturday.
