Le Mars Volleyball Opens Conference Play With Close Loss Verse Ranked Opponent

Le Mars volleyball opened their conference schedule on Thursday night with a straight-set loss to Council Bluffs AL.

While Le Mars did get swept, that does not tell the whole story. The Bulldogs lost the first set 25-15 but came back to make the next two sets competitive losing 25-22 and 25-23 to finish the match. Assistant coach Noah Morasco-Ayau says this year’s Bulldogs have a lot of resiliency.

Part of Le Mars’ success in the final couple of sets was the play of Holly McNaughton offensively. She came alive with seven kills in the second set and finished with 14 for the match. Coach Morasco-Ayau says she knows when it’s her time to shine.

The play of the final couple of sets begged the question on what if Le Mars had started that way. Coach Morasco-Ayau says it takes a mentality shift for them to be able to play strong and confident for an entire match.

Le Mars now enters a week-long break before their next competition. Coach Morasco-Ayau says the Bulldogs will use the break to their full advantage after having a busy first week of the season.

Le Mars will host Sioux City East on Thursday, September eighth in their next match of the season.
