Le Mars Volleyball Wins First Conference Game in Thriller Over SB-L

Le Mars volleyball defied the odds and beat Sergeant Bluff-Luton in four sets on Tuesday night on the road in Sergeant Bluff.

The win was the first over Sergeant Bluff-Luton in MRAC play since the Bulldogs joined the conference, it was the first win over the Warriors since 2015, and it was the first win for the Bulldogs in MRAC play this season. Le Mars head coach Jessica Wolles was incredibly proud of her team’s effort in getting the win.

The Bulldogs struggled a lot with getting in system when receiving a ball whether it was on serves or on attacks in previous matches. That didn’t happen on Tuesday as Le Mars was in a groove passing and controlling the ball. Coach Wolles says they worked on reading the ball in practice to get much better in controlling it.

The Bulldog offense flexed their muscles to the tune of three players with nine or more kills. Le Mars was led by Ireland Sitzmann who recorded 14 kills in the match and 11 before recording an error. Coach Wolles says her play helps breed confidence amongst the rest of the team.

Le Mars now knows that keeping the momentum is going to be the tricky part. The Bulldogs have a week off of competition before they host thirteenth-ranked Bishop Heelan next Tuesday. Coach Wolles says the Bulldogs need to continue hitting their goals like they did against SB-L to continue this momentum into more wins.

KLEM Radio will broadcast the Bulldog’s home matchup with Bishop Heelan on Tuesday, October fourth.
