Update -Plymouth County Fatal Accident – Update

On Thursday, April 13, 2023 at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a two-vehicle crash with serious injury.  The crash was reported near the intersection of K18 and Butcher Road in southwest Plymouth County.  Upon arrival it was determined that the drivers and sole occupants of both vehicles did not survive the crash.
In a preliminary stage of the investigation, it is believed that a 2016 Kia Optima owned and operated by Raymond James Frye, age 37 of Orange City, was northbound on K18.  A 2013 Acura RDX owned and operated  by Randall Kenton Shideler, age 54 of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, was southbound on K18.
The vehicles struck nearly head on causing both vehicles to then leave the roadway and overturn.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Akron Fire and Ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol, and Plymouth County Medical Examiner’s Office, Mercy Air Med, and Stockton Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office/Le Mars Police Department investigation team with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol.

FATAL ACCIDENT – UPDATE
The Plymouth County Sheriffs Office identified the two victims of a fatal, two-car crash that occurred Thursday in southwest Plymouth County.  According to a news release, the two drivers, 37 year old Raymond James Frye of Orange City, adn 54 year old Randall Kenton Shideler of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, died in the collision.  Investigators believe the vehicle driven by Frye was travelling north on K18 and the vehicle driven by Shideler was travelling south on K18 when they collided.  The vehicles collided nearly head on.  This caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and overturn.  The accident remains under investigation.

A two-vehicle crash claimed the lives of two people in Plymouth County Thursday. The Sheriffs Office says the accident occurred around 5:41 pm on K18 north of Butcher Road in southwest Plymouth County, about 6 miles southeast of Westfield in Sioux Township. Officers confirmed two people died as the result of the crash. No other details of the crash are being made public. Names of the victims have not been released, pending notification of family members. Akron Fire and Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, the Plymouth County Medical Examiner, adn Mercy Air responded. The Plymouth County Sheriffs office and the Le Mars Police Department accident team are investigating .
