SCOTT WILL “CLEAN OUT” DOJ
Republican candidate Tim Scott is promising to fire the head of the F-B-I if he’s elected president and clean out Department of Justice staff appointed by President Biden. Scott held a town hall style forum in Pella Wednesday night. The final question from the crowd came from a man who said the Department of Justice is weaponized against Americans and it’s not going to stop with Donald Trump. Scott did not mention the recent indictment of the former president or even refer to Trump by name in his answer, but Scott used the word corrosive to describe the culture inside the Department of Justice. And Scott said the country doesn’t survive when the majority of Americans don’t have confidence in the justice system.

HISTORIC THUNDERSTORM

Today marks the date of a deadly thunderstorm which ripped through northwest Iowa in 1885.  The National Weather Service says the storm hit late on the night of June 14, into early morning on June 15.  The storm produced a tornado, which weaved a path of destruction through Le Mars and surrounding areas, resulting in at least a dozen fatalities.  In Le Mars, local reports indicated ‘the two elevators, depots, mill and about fifth homes were destroyed and the lumber yards cover the entire town.’  In Sioux City, the storm produced very strong winds, causing damage throughout the city.  Dozens of Homes and businesses had their roofs torn off or walls blown in.  A railroad barge on the Missouri River sank, and the engineer barely managed to escape.  Outlying communities, such as Hospers and Cherokee County, had lesser wind damage, but heavier rains, causing widespread flooding and washed out bridges.

GRASSLEY QUESTIONS FBI PHONE CALLS

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley says he has seen a document that alleges a paid F-B-I informant was told a Ukrainian had recorded 15 phone calls with Hunter Biden and two with Joe Biden when Biden was vice president. The filled out form Grassley is referring to was shown to members of the House Oversight Committee last week in a secure room, with sections redacted. Last week, President Biden called the allegations malarkey.

ERNST URGES MILITARY AID TO UKRAINE

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst says the U.S. should stop humanitarian aid to Ukraine and focus on providing more military equipment. Ernst says our European allies are better positioned to provide food and other humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Ernst, a Republican from Red Oak, served 23 years in the Iowa National Guard and Army Reserve. Ernst says it’s important to our own national security to provide Ukraine with the military platforms it needs to defeat the Russians — and she says the Ukrainians are doing an incredible job of pushing Russia back and diminishing Russia’s military capacity for the next 10 to 15 years. Ernst made her comments during a debate series sponsored by the Edward Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate that will be broadcast Sunday night on Fox News.
