JENEARY HONORS TWO MENTORS
State Representative Tom Jeneary of Le Mars held a fundraiser this week, where he honored two men who have been a big influence on his political career. He said former Representative Ralph Klemme was the first person he sought out as he considered running for the Iowa House.
Jeneary said the other influence was U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley.
Both were on hand at his fundraiser in Orange City Wednesday. Grassley was the featured guest. Klemme offered the invocation to start the proceedings.
INJURY ACCIDENT
Four people were injured in a car – semi accident near Hospers Friday. The Sioux County Sheriffs Office says the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Iowa Highway 60 near Hospers Drive South. A semi driven by 75 year old Jerald William Ollerich of Sioux Falls was in the left lane, and a car driven by Dinora Sabillon-Diaz of South Sioux City, Nebraska, was in the right lane. Savillon-Diaz attempted to change lanes, and drove into the path of the semi. Both vehicles came to rest in the median of Iowa 60. Sabillon-Diaz and three passengers, 49-year –old Edith Sabillon-Diaz, and two children, ages 3 and 8, were injured in the crash. They were all transported to Orange City Heatlh System by Hospers Ambulance.
K9 TRIALS
Teams arrive Sunday for the USPCA Regional K9 Trials, hosted by Le Mars Police and the Plymouth County Sheriffs Office.
Police Chief Kevin Vande Vegte says some of their officers put a great deal of time and effort into preparing or the event.
Contributors helped with defraying costs and purchasing equipment for the trials.
The event will take place Monday through Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday, the trials will take place at the Le Mars Community High School practice football field, and at an open space at Rejoice Church in Le Mars. Both days, the public is invited to attend session of obedience, agility, and item searches. The Wednesday trials will be held at Hillview Park near Hinton. That session will be closed to the public.
NORTH DAKOTA REGULATORS REJECT PIPELINE
There was a setback Friday for Iowa-based Summit Carbon Solutions’ plan for a pipeline to carry liquid carbon from ethanol plants in Iowa and other states to underground storage in North Dakota. Radio Iowa’s O. Kay Henderson reports.
The IOWA Utilities Board plans to start its hearing on Summit’s pipeline route through Iowa on August 22nd. The hearing could last for months. The company has said it wants a decision by the end of the year on the application to build its pipeline along a 680 mile route through Iowa.
SALES TAX HOLIDAY
If you plan to do some back-to-school shopping today you can do so tax-free. It’s the state’s annual Tax-Free Holiday. Iowa Department of Revenue spokesman, John Fuller, says you will not be charged sales tax on clothing or footwear that’s less than 100 dollars. In most parts of the state, the sales tax is seven-percent. The discount does not include things like jewelry, sporting equipment or sunglasses. The event runs through 11:59 P-M tonight.
