MMCRU Football Makes History Upping Record to 4-1 with Fourth Straight Win

The MMCRU football team has been making history week after week on their way to a 4-1 record with a 4-0 mark in district play. The Royals defeated Sibley-Ocheyedan 42-0 on Friday night to win their fourth game in a row.

MMCRU won three games last year going 3-6 but before that had not won more than one game in a season since Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn and Remsen-Union were two separate programs. MMCRU head coach Kyle Oswald says the biggest joy has been watching the confidence grow with his players this season.

The Royal offense recorded over 400 yards in their win over the Generals with 252 yards coming on the ground. Coach Oswald says once the running game got started, it was smooth sailing for the rest of the offense.

The defense came to play while pitching their first shutout since September 29, 2017 in an 8-0 win over North Union. Coach Oswald says the key to the defensive success has been the guys taking coaching well to make some needed improvements.

MMCRU has already qualified for the playoffs with their four wins on the season. The qualification marks their first postseason appearance as a shared program. That does not mean they are satisfied with just getting there. They want to improve their path and can go a long way towards doing that with a matchup against fellow district unbeaten Akron-Westfield. Coach Oswald says the Royals are not shying away or hiding from a challenge.

Kickoff between the Royals and Westerners will be at 7:00 PM in Akron. If MMCRU wins, they will claim the district title and be guaranteed home field in the first two rounds of the playoffs. If Akron-Westfield wins, they will have the tiebreaker for the district title heading into the final two weeks of the season.
