Gehlen Catholic Girls Basketball Ends Season at Harris-Lake Park

The Gehlen Catholic girls basketball team ended their season in the regional tournament with a 71-54 loss at Harris-Lake Park on Thursday night.

The Jays were red hot to start the night going 5-8 from the three-point arch and jumping out to a 20-15 lead in the first quarter. Head coach Brandon Schaecher says that was nice, but the Jays needed to match the offensive success with defensive success.

The second quarter flipped everything around for Gehlen. Harris-Lake Park started the quarter on a 13-0 run and outscored the Jays 23-6 in the period. Coach Schaecher says they had a struggle with breaking the full-court press in the second quarter.

Haley Lubben put the offense on her back in the first half making her first three shots with two from long range and finishing the game with 15 points. For someone that only averaged two points a game, Coach Schaecher was pleased to see Lubben rise to the occasion.

Gehlen ends their season with a record of 2-20 and will graduate three seniors off the team in Haley Pohlen, Larissa Pohlen, and Nevaeh Hodgson. Coach Shaecher says all of them left their mark on the program in a different way.

Harris-Lake Park improved their record to 6-14 and will be at George-Little Rock on Tuesday in the regional quarterfinal round.
