Le Mars Boys Soccer picks up first-ever postseason win

The Le Mars boys soccer team won the program’s first-ever postseason match with a 6-0 win to open substate play over Spirit Lake Park/Okoboji on Tuesday night.

The win follows a 1-9 start to the year that has turned into a five-win in six-game span down the homestretch of the season. Head coach Blake Fehringer says it was even better to get this win on their home pitch.

The Bulldogs had a slow start with just one Jude Dougherty goal getting them on the board in the first half. Things changed about 10 minutes into the half when the Bulldogs would score three goals in a two-and-a-half-minute span. Coach Fehringer says the guys continued doing what they did in the first half but got the results they wanted in the second half.

Le Mars’ domination in the second half came from everywhere with five different players scoring a goal in the victory. Degi Kabongo ended up leading the charge with a pair of goals to seal the victory for the Dogs. Coach Fehringer says this win should give the guys some confidence heading into their next round.

The Bulldogs will have a tall task on Monday in the substate semifinal locking up a date with the seventh-ranked Spencer Tigers. Coach Fehringer says the guys need to keep playing like they have in this second half of the season.

Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 20 in Spencer. The Tigers are the top-seed in the substate bracket.
