MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCES IN PLYMOUTH COUNTY
Communities throughout Plymouth County are preparing for Memorial Day observances. In Le Mars, American Legion Wasmer Post 241 will present the Memorial Day program,. Over 1450 flags will be posted on the courthouse lawn. The Legion Post says the Legion Riders will place flags on veterans graves at Memorial Cemetery Saturday at 7-30 am. They ask for volunteers to help set flag anchors on the courthouse lawn at 8 am.
On Memorial Day, volunteers are asked to help place the flags, beginning at 6 am. A parade starts on the Boulevard at 9:15. The Memorial Day program begins at 10 am on the courthouse lawn. Volunteers are asked to help take down the flags at 4 pm. In the event of rain, the program will be held at the Le Mars Middle School Auditorium.
KLEM will broadcast live the program at 10 a.m., and we will Facebook live both the parade and Courthouse ceremony on the KLEM Facebook page.
Memorial Day observances will be held across Plymouth County Monday:
In Akron, American Legion Albert E Hoschler Post 186 will host a program in the city park, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Each Memorial Day, the ceremony includes reading the list of deceased veterans from the Hoschler Post. This year the post will dedicate 10 new flags.
In Remsen and Oyens, observances are sponsored by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Held at the Remsen and Oyens cemeteries. The ceremonies will be held starting at 10 a.m. at the cemetery in Remsen.
The ceremony at Oyens is at 11 a.m., at the cemetery.
Flags honoring 410 veterans will be flown throughout the Remsen community, and seven new flags will be presented. Oyens will have a flag display at the cemetery.
American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton will host a rememberence at 10 a.m., at the Hinton Community Hall. Legion members will conduct a veterans tribute as flags are posted. A cross and flag display honoring more than 250 deceased veterans will be outside the Hinton Community Center.
American Legion Nash Post 140 will be host a ceremony at the Kingsley Community Center at 9 a.m. They will Honor Kingsley’s Veterans by reading the names of 365 Fallen Veterans, have a musical presentation, Taps, a wreath presentation and have breakfast provided for a free will donation by the KCAC. The Post Honor Guard will then travel to all 3 cemeteries and render proper military honors with a 21-gun salute & taps
In Brunsville, American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilkens Post 724 will host a memorial service at 10:30 a.m., outside the legion hall. More than 200 flags will be posted on the Avenue of Flags east of the legion hall as part of the ceremony.
A Memorial Day service will be held 9 a.m., Monday, at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery in Craig. The names of 50 veterans will be read.
American Legion Oleson-Halweg Post 125 will have a flag display at the Veteran’s Memorial in Merrill on Memorial Day.
