A Taste of Ukraine in Orange City

SCHEDRYCK OPENS IN ORANGE CITY

(Natali Valyanska)

In the middle of Dutch country, is now a little taste of Ukraine. It’s Schedryck, a new grocery store in downtown Orange City.
Owner and manager Natali Valyanska says there are a variety of foods and beverages in stock that give customers tastes that bring them close to home.

Schedryk carries Ukrainian meats, mainly sausage, and even ice cream to the Ukrainian tastebuds.

Natali says it’s hard to explain Ukrainian tastes to Americans, but that’s the fun of trying it.

Valyanska explains the name of the grocery, called Schedryck.

Natali got to know the grocery business as a lender in her home country.

Also in the store is a gallery featuring paintings done by a Ukrainian artist, who is supporting herself in her home country.

Natali says before, members of the small Ukrainian community in northwest Iowa had to go Sioux Falls to find these foods. Now these old world tastes are closer to their new home.
