Gehlen Catholic Softball scores six in the third to win postseason contest with George-Little Rock

The Gehlen Catholic softball team had no problem defeating George-Little Rock in their regional opening round matchup by a score of 11-2 in Granville on Monday night.

It took an inning or two to get the Jays going at the plate. They went down in order in the first inning and could only scratch across one run in the second. Six runs would come across to score in the third inning, and head coach Tony Kerkvliet says sometimes it takes a little time to get in the swing of things.

Once they had the ball rolling, hitting was contagious with everyone up and down the lineup contributing in their own way to the scoreboard. Coach Kerkvliet says they show a lot of fight when they are at the plate.

Addie Konz did her part in the circle. She got in trouble at times allowing eight hits, but she spread them out to keep things from getting out of hand in an inning. Coach Kerkvliet says she was in a nice rhythm throughout the night.

Gehlen Catholic gets the rare opportunity to play an out-of-conference team for the third time this season when they matchup with Woodbury Central in Moville in the next round. Coach Kerkvliet says it will take limiting mistakes to win the rubber match in the season series.

Gehlen Catholic takes on Woodbury Central on Wednesday, July 10 in Moville. KLEM will bring you the contest live with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 PM.
