The Le Mars Community volleyball team won their home opener on senior night on Tuesday night with a straight-set sweep of Sioux City West.
Motivation was not hard to come by for the Bulldogs. With senior night, the home opener, and having lost the last couple of seasons to West, Le Mars was on a mission to pick up the win. Le Mars head coach Jessica Wolles says the girls did their jobs well to get the win.
Offensively, Le Mars was able to get many different players involved. Alexa Wurth, Raegan Davis, and Haley Feldman all totaled eight-or-more kills to lead the way. Aubree Leusink dished out 35 assists to help facilitate the offensive production. Coach Wolles says she has confidence in anyone that she puts in offensively.
Le Mars won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-12. The third set saw Le Mars get down and give West multiple set points that threatened a fourth set. However, Le Mars fought hard to make sure they did not have to play an extra set. Coach Wolles says that fight came from the continual message of “finish” during the preseason that prepared them to be better late in matches.
The Bulldogs picked up their second MRAC win with the sweep of West and now sit at 2-1 in the conference. In such a tough conference, it is a plus to see the Bulldogs make improvements having not won more than two games in the MRAC since 2019. Coach Wolles says to continue this trend, the Bulldogs will need to learn to work better with what they have against some tough competition.
Le Mars will next take the floor in Cherokee at a weekend tournament on Saturday, September 21.
