The 2024 Northwest Iowa National Invitational women’s tournament was not much of a contest with Texas Wesleyan University claiming the crown by 29 strokes.
The Rams finished 13 strokes under par as a team with all six golfers placing in the top-10 individually. Texas Wesleyan head coach Kevin Millikan says his team is being rewarded well for their hard work.
With so many strong golfers on the team, it would be understandable for there to be some jealousy of the top golfers on the roster. That is not the case for the Rams who have now won two consecutive tournaments to start the season. Coach Millikan says everyone on the team golfs well and wants what is best for the team.
The Rams were challenged a bit on the second day of the tournament. Windy weather mixed with an hour-long weather delay had to test the team’s mental state. Coach Millikan says they answered the call and did what they needed to do to come out on top.
Texas Wesleyan has become a mainstay of the tournament since its inception in 2019. The Rams have to travel far every year making the trek from Fort Worth, Texas to compete in Le Mars. Coach Millikan says he would not want to leave this event off the schedule because of the great support Le Mars gives it.
The Rams are the #5 women’s golf team in the NAIA this season. They host their own tournament in Fort Worth on Monday next week to continue their season.
