After a really rough start to the year going 0-2, the MMCRU football team has won back-to-back games by a combined score of 88-7. The most recent being a 44-7 win on the road at South O’Brien on Friday.
Things looked pretty grim for the Royals after that 0-2 start to the season, but they did not quit. MMCRU head coach Kyle Oswald says all it took was to get guys to get back to simply doing their job on the field.
The Royals were led against South O’Brien by Brayson Mulder who rushed for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns. Mulder gets all the statistical credit, but Coach Oswald says it was the job done by the offensive line that deserves recognition.
The MMCRU defense went from giving up 71 points in their first two games to just seven in its last two. It was a very quick turnaround for a team that was able to welcome back a few key pieces that helped out the cause. Coach Oswald says those returning players plus some added toughness allowed the Royals to make such a quick turnaround.
The Royals are now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the district with a big matchup this week. The Royals could leap their way to second in the district with a win over their opponent this week in the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan who is 3-0 in district play. Coach Oswald says to beat the Generals, his guys can not be giving the ball away like they frequently have in the first half of the year.
MMCRU’s matchup with Sibley-Ocheyedan is set for a 7:00 PM kickoff in Marcus.
