Becky’s New Car Opens Today at LCT

(Le Mars)- The last show of the 2024 season at the Le Mars Community Theatre’s Postal Playhouse opens today and runs through Sunday.  “Becky’s New Car,” a dramatic comedy by Steven Dietz, invites you on mid-life journey narrated by the shows titular character Becky, played by LCT Veteran Melanie Sailer.  Melanie said learning who Becky is came from getting comfortable with her many monologues. After that, knowing how Becky would relate with the other characters in the show came naturally.

And where is Becky going?  Without giving too much away, “Becky’s New Car” is script that takes you through what it’s like to be presented with a new life path while being realistic about weighing the life you already have.  Becky is married to her husband, played by Joe Ouradnik, with a grown son, played by Mitchell Zenk, who lives at home.  She works at a car dealership and it’s there she meets a wealthy man, played by George New.  There’s a spark between them and the choices made by Becky unfold from there.

Joe Ouradnik believes that audience members will find at least one character that they can relate to, whether they’re 22 or 102.

Becky’s New Car does have subject matters that are mostly relatable for adults, but is still appropriate for younger audiences.  There are bits of humor included in the dramatic dialog and a fun set, including a real car on the stage.

The cast is rounded out by 3 other players: Michael Donlin, Ashlyn Vander Stelt and Janelle Hultquist. Backstage help is provided by Naomi Kinney and Katie Frerichs.

“Becky’s New Car” is under the direction of Jeff Neary, and the producer is Bob Hill.  This Sunday’s matinee is already sold out, but there are available seats for all 7:30 performances this Tuesday- Saturday.  Call the box office at  712-546-5788 from 11-1, or purchase tickets online at www.lemarslive.org.
