Gehlen Catholic ends season at the hands of Trinity Christian in region quarterfinals

The Gehlen Catholic volleyball team ended their season in Wednesday night’s regional quarterfinal falling to Trinity Christian in a three-set sweep.

It was a tough night for the Jays as a whole. Gehlen Catholic recorded more attacking errors than kills, were not able to record a service ace, and had to play from behind the entire night. Gehlen Catholic head coach Dan Goebel says the girls just were not like their normal selves.

The first set saw the best fight from the Jays who trailed 16-10 midway through it and rattled off six points in a row to tie the set. After that, they still could not take the lead and ultimately lost the set 25-22. Coach Goebel says there was still some positive energy during that set that was not there later in the match.

Trinity Christian cruised to wins in the second and third sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-12 respectively. It felt like the Tigers could do whatever they wanted most of the night, and there was nothing Gehlen could do to stop it. Coach Goebel says the Tiger attack was really giving his blockers fits especially.

Gehlen Catholic ends the year with a record of 15-12, and they graduate a group of seven seniors. Coach Goebel says that group brought some great leadership to the program when it was needed.

Trinity Christian advances with an 18-7 record. They will take on #11 Akron-Westfield in Akron on Monday, October 28.
